What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. (NIV)
- We live in the world, but we are not supposed to be of the world. What causes fights and quarrels? Self-will, wanting what we want, when we want it. Sometimes what we want is to have the last word because we have had our feelings hurt, or life has given us a bad deal (we think) so now it's time to make everyone else unhappy too. Does this sound familiar?
- Church business meetings, planning committees,
where do we go to eat after a church event? All of these situations can turn
into a fight or a quarrel if we let our desires get away from us. Have you been
at a meeting where one person always seems to get their way because they are
verbally aggressive and no one else wants to confront them? What do you do in
this situation?
- The first solution to all problems in life is to take it to the Lord in prayer and ask for help, guidance, and wisdom. If you’re in the middle of a battle today try to stop and ask," What would Jesus do?"
